Welcome For samba you can install a plugin for your KDE control Panel called ksambaplugin It is in the 'contrib' folder of any mirror. To be able to install applications from the contrib folder using your software install GUI go here http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ and follow the instructions. Then install ksambaplugin and start your KDE control Centre. As always in Linux there are many ways to do the same thing. An alternative to ksambaplugin is webmin. You can use webmin to administer both samba and your FTP server. Install the webmin package using your software install GUI and then in your Mandriva Control Centre>System>Services start the webmin service. Then in a browser go to https://localhost:10000 and you will see webmin Note https NOT http You will find the samba will work "Out of the box" The only things you need do is set the WORKGROUP name, and enable the home folders for those users you want to be able to access their files over samba. One warning though. If you have enabled the firewall in Mandriva, you will need to open it up before samba will work. Lots of people get caught out by that one :-) HTH derek -- www.jennings.homelinux.net http://twiki.mdklinuxfaq.org
