| When at the command prompt, I use mc (The Midnight Commander). It

| file navigation / management / editing interface. Back in the bad old DOS
| days, I used Norton Commander and MC is much like it. I get to have my
| command prompt AND a visual interfact to the file system.
|
| HTH,
I understood that. There is a file editor in mc, or you can use pico, ed,
gedit or any other editor you may have installed. vi and emacs are a little
less user friendly than the one in mc, and I always gravitate to the easy
answers when reasonable.
If there is a way to edit a file directly from the command line, I have not
done so yet (been a Linux user since 1998), and I have no wish to try :). If
reference to CLI text editors is not what you want, I am sorry, but I am not
the one to help you. Maybe some one else can,
