Anyone use lame enough to help me out? I'm trying to get tracks from
CDs to mp3 (all legally bought CDs). I extract the tracks using Sound
Juicer CD Ripper and it saves them as .ogg files-OK. Now I need to
convert them to mp3. I'm trying to use lame, but it's not working for
me. I get nothing but 30 seconds of static from a 4 minute track (AC/DC
reduced to static?? Hell's Bells!!) I can't seem to make sense of the
"options" to change anything.
The command I'm using is "lame -h <file.ogg> <file.mp3>".
Any help for a mp3 rookie? (I recently got a Lexar mp3 player, and it
doesn't want to play anything else.)
TIA

You may want to consider using different ripping software. The problem
is that lame is not set up to handle ogg files. You are better off using
cdparanoia or cdda2wav, and feading the output to lame. You could use a
program that decodes .ogg files, and fead the output to lame, but you
will get better quality if you go directly from the CD. You may want to
do a google or Freshmeat search for scripts that convert a CD to mp3
files automaticly. (Getting song names and such from one of the CD
databases....)
If you want a GUI that will do the job, I am sure someone on the list
can give you a few to look at.

Well, swat my hind with melon rind! That explains a lot! Thanks,
Mikkel and Deathkitten for your responses. I have now found a
couple of rippers that will go straight to mp3--Grip looking like
one of the better ones. I'll give it a rip.
Thanks again.
