Very simple. Plug an IDE cable into it (after checking if it is set to 
'master' or slave'). You can have up to two drives connected to an IDE cable 
but they must be set differently.

Then stoke up Mandriva and in Mandriva Control Centre select 
MountPoints>Create,Delete,Resize,HardDiskPartitions

Then just point to the drive and set up your partitions as you please. If you 
select Advanced you will get more options.

Mandriva does a very good job at setting up drive partitions.
