If you can not connect, then try running "service cups restart" to make sure CUPS is running. You are probably going to have to remove and re-install the print server connection. Exactly how you configure the print server depends on the print server. If you are using a lpd-type connection, then it should be the IP address of the router, and the print spool name. If it shares as a Windows printer, then you would use the Windows networking share name. This may be covered in your router manual. One thing I have found is that you will get a fairly long timeout delay if you have an lpd-type printer defined wrong, because it will try and get the printer status. Because the print server does not respond to the request for status when the configuration is wrong, you have to wait for the request to time out. You can also get extra delays when you use a host name instead of an IP address. If the name is not a valid host name, the lookup has to time out. As far as seeing the Linux machine in your network places, that is because Samba is running on the Linux machine, and it seperate from the printer setup. (Though Samba will share the configured printers once you have CUPS working correctly.) Apparently the cups daemon never got ready - I gave up on it after about thirty minutes. I was not able to connect to http://localhost:631, which is consistent with the repeated suggestions that the print server was not functioning. You suggest removing and reinstalling the print server connection. How do I go a bout that? Thanks dan -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
