This appeared on cooker list - just in case it helps: I'm running cooker and when I restart the boot process stops on this message: "Waiting for the CUPS deamon getting ready". Then it waits and when I returned home 4.5 hours later it was still waiting. The only way (I've found) to start the computer is to: 1: start with a rescue CD. 2: remove CUPS (and dependancies). 3: restart Linux from HD. 4: reconfigure printer. My printer is an HP Photosmart 7450 You never said whether you were running 2005LE or 2006RCx - if it's 2006 this message would be relevant.
