For samba, I'd recommend that you take a look at /etc/samba/smb.conf (you need to be root). First, save that file as smb.conf.orig, because there's a huge amount of comment in there that you may want to read later, when you think about changing things. Then, go through the original file slowly. Read the comments. Delete any sections that don't apply to you - there will be a lot, because it tries to cover every configuration. You should end up with a much smaller file. Give it a try, and if it still doesn't work, post its contents here and we'll try to tell you what you missed. As for sharing printers, part of what's needed you'll see from the smb.conf file. Then Ricardo's advice is the next step. There may be other steps needed, depending on where the printers are sited.
