So they charge you more for the same machine without XP, and claim to save you 
money. That's a nice bit of corporate doublespeak. I guess Dell hasn't 
changed.

IIRC from the antitrust trial, one of the things that came out was that their 
contract with M$ required them to pay the tax on every unit shipped, even if 
it didn't have Windoze on it. I think they're required to ship it with some 
OS too, which is why the FreeDOS thing (I tried FreeDOS once, DOS programs 
don't work on it, so it's pretty much useless). So it looks like if you buy 
from Dell, you're paying the M$ tax no matter what. I wonder if it's the same 
with HP?
