How do I check if a particular driver of firmware is available on this
distro?
I assume that just by having executed the EasyRpmi sugested website
queries that you have previously advice me I can run the software
install from MCC, right?
If I get no answer when quering it means is not available?
Do I need to check some other websites other than EasyRpmi or do they
comprised the same database and software available?
The specific device detected by MCC and showed under unkown is "Intel's
Corp '82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Modem Controller'
(module = snd-intel8x0m)"
FROM EXPERIENCE, the best thing to do is to chuck the "WinModem" that you have
and get an external 56k data/voice/fax modem. Why?
1.) No drivers necessary
2.) Very little configuration
3.) Does not use the computer to do it's processing - it does it all itself
4.) Does not interfere with the kernel
5.) Does not require extra modules or drivers or firmware
Sorry to be so drastic, but, as stated, FROM EXPERIENCE (and you can go
through the list's archives for proof in the putting), internal "WinModems"
are a severe headache, waste of time, and waste of a perfectly good PCI slot
in your system.

I have a an old (and very good) PCMCIA Vikings modem (I did not even
remember about it until you mentioned to get a new one) and just plug it
in and here's what happened:
Mandirva include a new device under unknown (which as a ttyS1) and has
moved my previouslly unknown modem to the known device section under modem.
I don't have the time to test it know and be away from town for the
weekend, so I'll probably try it next week and let you know if it worked.
