Sounds like you upgraded your existing system. When doing that be prepared for trouble.... especially in the gui sector like KDE and Gnome. Create a new user, log in as that user and see how many of your problems persist. Most will be due to inconsistent settings of old window-managers like KDE. -- Good luck, HarM
