I manually modprobe'd them, but could still not simply mount my RAID array. Instead, I had to use mdadm --assemble to recreate the array; all the files on the array were intact. Finally, (and I realize you know this, I'm writing it so those who might search in the future can find the answer), I set up the following which allowed the array to come up automatically on reboot. I'm not sure both of these are necessary, but I wanted to play it safe: (1) Add xor and raid5 to /etc/modules so they are loaded on reboot. (2) Added a DEVICE and ARRAY lines to /etc/mdadm.conf describing the array. Per the man page for mdadm, "mdadm --detail --brief" will generate output suitable for adding to the mdadm.conf file. -- Guy Rouillier
