Hi all,
I have bought a DVD-reader/re-writer today and want to put that in my
machine so I can install Mandriva 2006 from DVD.
In the PC (still running MDK 10.0) are a regular CD-rom and a Plextor
CD-RW.
Can I put the DVD-R/RW in where the regular CD-Rom now is without
problems or so? I don't really want to miss the CD-RW.
The DVD-writer is a Philips DVDR1645K.
Thanks for any clues!

The rule of thumb here is jumper the new drive to match the one you are
replacing. If it is set as Master, jumper the new one the same. If it is
set as for Cable Select (CS), jumper it that way. The jumper location
may not be the same, but what a jumper does in that position is what
matters. One other thing to keep in mind - if the BIOS is not set to
auto detect drives, you may have to change UDMA settings to get full
performance out of the new drive. A lot of the older CD-ROM drives do
not support UDMA, and almost all DVD-ROM drives do. It will work with
out using UDMA, but performance, especially when playing movies, will
not be as good.
