I checked the syslog. Yesterday there were about a dozen of these events, apparently randomly distributed through the day.
In syslog, each starts with a line
Bad page state at prep_new_page (in process <process>, page <page>)
followed by some debugging (?) information, and then ends with the line about rebooting required. Most of the events referred to different processes, but there were some duplications.
Any thoughts?

The emerg message starts with the same comment about Bad page

I think it may be time to give the system a night off, and run memtest86 on it over night. It may be that the page table got corrupted, (unusual!) but it may also be a memory stick that is going bad, or other hardware problems. In any case, you are going to keep getting these error messages until you reboot.

If you can not afford to have the system down for a night, at least reboot it, and see if the problems go away. If they come back, then definitely run a memory test on it.
