I had the same thing on Mdk 10.1. After some experimentation, I determined 
that the cddb server url (Extras -> Configure KsCD -> freedb) should be:

freedb.freedb.org

The 8880 port is correct. Enter the server url exactly as I've shown, no 
"http://"; or other protocol (okay, technically, without a protocol, it's not 
a url, but I didn't know what else to call it 8^). KsCD already knows to use 
the "cddb://" protocol.

The KsCD people seem to be pointing it to the freedb home page by default, 
instead of to the database itself. Or maybe the freedb web site was changed 
after this default was configured.
