The contents of your Mandriva CDs are the 'main' distribution. Mandriva
packages these and maintains the packages.

There are 100's of other applications that Mandriva did not include in the
distro for lack of space or manpower, or whatever reason.
Volunteers package these applications and they are put into the online mirrors
called 'contrib'. There is some really good stuff in contrib. To access it
go to http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ and follow the instructions. Be sure to
enter the correct Mandriva version.

(Tip : Copy and paste in linux is highlight/centre mouse click )

You will then be able to install contrib applications using your software
install GUI (so long as you are online)

While you are at the easy urpmi site set up a source for 'plf' as well. Plf
contains applications which would be illegal in certain repressive countries
whose governments think for example, you should not be permitted to play DVDs
you have purchased on linux.
