I am trying to get MythTV to run an ultra-cheap High Definition TV card (paid A$100/US$73 for a KWorld DVB-T PCI).
Harddrake is identifying this card as a Hauppauge WinTV PCI card (88x chip based), perhaps because they both use a Conexant chip.
According to LinuxTVwiki, "there are three versions of this card, one with a Samsung tuner similar to the AVerMedia 771, another with a Thomson tuner (similar to the Nova-T 90002) and another with Thomson tuner DTT 7579. Both (sic) versions are supported".
>From the wiki there are patches available for kernels 2.6.11.2,  2.6.12 and 2.6.15 (I am running Mandriva 2006, but not clear on which kernel this contains.  Also not clear on how to run a patch)

MythTV just loops me through 3 setup screens and shuts itself down without comment.
On the second screen, it nominates mysql as the database for whatever purpose it may have.

3 times I have used GUI to install 199MB (ye gods!) of mysql from the Mandriva 2006 DVD, and each time it has hung.
Before the third attempt, I uninstalled mysql before re-installing,
and checked the lead box from the search for mysql, so that the package selection was automatic.
