I also use this method although for only 15 years :-)

I just leave the PS in the box and take the whole thing and have never had any 
problem.

One precaution which I do take is to insert a non-conductor into the grill to 
prevent the fan from spinning. The blast of air will spin the fan at a high 
speed and might damage the bearings.
