Assuming your family are not computer geeks then I assume the easiest way to 
view pictures is with a browser.
In that case set your firewall to forward port 80 to your computer and set up 
a web server. There are a number of applications available to display 
pictures on a web server. Gallery is nice (I use it) 
http://gallery.menalto.com/ (Gallery 1 is simpler to set up than Gallery 
version 2)

If you want a really simple way of sharing pictures with your family then open 
a Flickr account from Yahoo http://www.flickr.com/  Its free.
