Joe,

Actually it is not very complicated to share a mozilla (firefox /
thunderbird / netscape) profile between Linux. What is required is that
you can read/write to the profile in both systems - which makes it
necessary to create (or move - which is a problem on its own) the
profile on a FAT partition. And this FAT partition needs to be mounted
always.

The basic idea is described overhere (for mozilla) if you can read German.
http://www.mozhilfe.de/mozfaq_profil_winlinux.php

But I will try to tell it for Thunderbird as short as possible. This
solution is based on creating a profile in windows within a FAT
partition and then point linux to this partition.

1) create / have a profile in Windows
    normally /Documents and Settings/....Application Data/Thunderbird/

2) create / have a profile in Linux
    normally ~/.thunderbird

3) In both systems you have to define your email settings (accounts)

4) First make thunderbird (per account!) look at the FAT partition for
the stored local email
    Go to Edit -> Accounts
Point he 'local folder' path below to the fat partition, like
    /mnt/win_C/Documents and Settings ....
Profiles/default/<nr.slt>/Mail/pop.gmail.com

This is also where message filters and labels (colours) are stored -
so you will see the same in both systems.

5) Symlink some files to files on the FAT partition (rename the old ones
first)
abook.mab (to share your address book)
    history.mab (to share the history)
    localstore.rdf
    training.dat (for the spam training)

If i install a fresh or different linux system (or even a different
user) you can install the linux part again if you tar the ~/.thunderbird
folder and untar it again. For another user you will have to change the
owner afterwards. For another distribution take care that the FAT
partition is mounted on the same path.

Greetings,
Peter Vollebregt
