I don't know from GRUB, and at this point it all becomes very fuzzy to me.

It's pretty humbling when "newbie" stuff is way over my head. :-) Of course,
I've been Google-ing up a storm, but most of that, similarly, assumes I know
more than I do (which is, essentially, squat).
I appreciate the time spent in your response (above, and snipped) ... I find
myself at the same position as before, when I originally had asked a similar
question ... understanding just enough of it to know I could really screw
things up in a major way, and not understanding enough of it to have any
confidence whatsoever that I could get myself out of any holes I dug myself
into. So, I'll probably have Mandriva on this box until it dies, or I do,
whichever comes first.
