Several weeks ago I installed the Hawkwind (www.seerofsouls.com) kde 3.5.0
rpms exactly according to the directions on his website. Everything worked
fine.
Subsequently I upgraded to his 3.5.1 rpms using the mcc updater function.
After the upgrade I had a bunch of problems which I initially attributed to
3.5.1. I again followed Hawkwind's directions to remove 3.5.1 and reinstall
3.5.0, but the problems (konqi windows crash if I try to close tabs, Reply to
e-mails causes kmail/kontact to crash), remained. I'm wondering now whether
an rpm that was originally present in 2006, not upgraded by the 3.5.0
procedure, subsequently upgraded by the move to 3.5.1 and not returned to the
original 2006 state is the cause of the problem. My thought was something
like qt3 or libqt3.
Does this sound plausible. Is there anyone who knows the Hawkwind procedure
who could identify candidate rpms or possibly suggest a grep filter that
would allow me to identify such a rogue rpm?
TIA
Paul
I had a lot of the same problems with kmail/kontact before upgrading to 3.5.1. I actually have not seen the problem since the upgrade. I originally had a clean 2006 install. At least once a day kmail would crash. It also said that emptying the trash was not successfull. All of these seem cleared up in 3.5.1. There are some issues with qt, so I do not believe that the upgrade is for everyone, but for me, it was better than what I had. I don't think that there is a rogue rpm as far as kmail/kontact is concerned. Can't really say for the rest.
