Remember that NTFS is read-only in linux (yes I know you can get around that somewhat - this is a newbie forum).... I would suggest copying the entire contents to your local hd and then formatting the usb drive in either ext3 or fat32.  IF you need to share this with a windows machine (arghhh why), then I would suggest FAT32.  Linux can read and write to a FAT32 drive.  If you do not then go all out and do a ext3 drive.  Once you are done with that, jsut move the data back.  Sucks, but it works.  I have 2 external resiferFS drives, and a FAT32 for my wife.  I can write to them all, and she can read my resiferFS drives, and write to the FAT32.

I have a external USB hard drive formated with two NTFS partitions. Can
I use it to add additional files from my desktop Mandriva One

will repartition, ovrerwrite, or worse yet reformat what is already on
it. Can I safely run the configuration tool?

The "Hardware" option in the "Control Center" recognizes it as :

"Purity In A Digital World"

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
