Hi I have just installed and am now running 4.2. I used the source to recompile it, there are a couple of files in the xc directory on how to install it, INSTALL.org etc
I think it depends on the distro that you are using a bit as only some are automatically recognised, I was ok cos I am using Suse 7.1 but with kernel 2.4.17 though I don't think the kernel version matters (famous last words!!!) untar the source cd /usr/src tar xvzf XFree86.4.2.tar.gz (or what ever it was called) then from memory I think it was just a case of changing to the xc directory and entering make World (note the cap W) make install (check the doc in xc) hope this helps a little sorry its a little vague but I have now removed the source to regain the space At 13:58 06/03/02 +0100 you scribbled: >Hello, I have just downloaded the new 4.2.0 source and I was wondering if >someone could give me a step-by-step instruction on how to install it over >a previous version. > >Thanks and Much Appreciated > >_________________________________________________________________ >Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. >http://www.hotmail.com > >_______________________________________________ >Newbie mailing list >[EMAIL PROTECTED] >*** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: >http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie Laurence ** if you want to know what the program really does, look at the code ** [EMAIL PROTECTED] This Mail should NOT have an attachment, if it does it may have been created by a VIRUS DO NOT OPEN IT!!! _______________________________________________ Newbie mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie
