Do I understand this right?  You're running clients on the Mandrake box
connected to the NCD X server?

So is "dave" the NCD machine, or the Mandrake machine?  The GLX
extension would have to be installed in the server, wouldn't it? 
Tweaking XFree86 on the Mandrake box isn't going to change the Xserver
in the NCD box.
