one bit of ignorance i'll share to save your experience of it.

when i first installed my distro, i didn't realize that it already had
XF 4.2.0
integrated. i figured i had to pull the src, built it and install it.

well, the get/build was fine, when i installed it, it so totally hosed
my X configuration, that after a day of pain, i just reinstalled.

i was so humiliated when i saw that i was trying to install what 
was already in place. :(

usually i do look before i leap. in that day of pain, i found that the
tty used by XF's default isn't the same as suse uses, and other minor
differences. 

my foolishness shared to spare you my pain! :)
