On http://www.openstreetmap.org/ there is a link titled "Help & Wiki" (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Main_Page)
Nothing here about how to navigate the map shown on the homepage. But there is a link titled "Beginners' Guide" (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Beginners%27_Guide). This page PRESUMES that ALL newbies primarily interested in editing OSM maps. Users are a secondary concern. Clicking on "Help" shows me my assumption that it would be "help concerning the wiki itself" was wrong. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Help:Contents DOES have a link (titled "Browsing") to what I needed. My proffered solution would be to have separate links to "Help" and "Wiki" on the homepage.
