Wadi is interesting, but I didn't see "wadi" under
"waterways." Am I missing something? Also, I think of a wadi as
completely dry, while these waterways often have a trickle of water
for several months. If you have seen the movie "Chinatown" you get an
idea of how it is (though it's not the LA River in the movie; it's
Big Tujunga Canyon).
I also saw the proposed "intermittent" tag, which appeals to
me because it is more familiar. There has been no suggestion for
rendering, so I put in the idea of the alternating dashes and dots,
like the USGS.
Also, I saw the sugestions that "drains" be used, but to me
a "drain" is not something natural. Most of these streams are natural
formations that have become encased in concrete only recently.
Usually, only part of the stream course has concrete walls, and the
rest is often natural. And, as in the case of the LA River, the whole
thing may be returned to a natural state some day.
What does everyone else think of "drain."
I think I'll follow, and possibly contribute to, the case of
the "intermittent" tag.
