I'm glad you have both the time & patience, but I really think it's better & more efficient if the originators of these traces tided them up themselves.
I'm not sure about this, but does OSM benefit from having people upload inaccurate data & then not bothering to correct it? I realize that TIGER is mass automatic upload & therefore on a larger scale, but the main criticism of it, from what I'm aware of, was its inaccuracies & the time others had to spend manipulating it.
