[OSM-newbies] Entrance Canopy

I'm trying to map the local school which has had a new car park, and 
entrance built. The service road and footpaths come up to the front door 
but there is a large canopy covering parts of the road and the building. 
I'm not sure how the map this. It will have a higher layer number than 
the school or the road. Do I just have overlapping buildings or is there 
a specific object ?
