I had to re-install Linux on my laptop after the InstallFest, so when I did I
ended up coming across the same problems that existed the first time I installed
Linux. At login, I get a message telling me that the system was unable to get
the x-server (I think) up and running. It had some sort of problem with my
monitor, and that no valid screen modes could be found. I asked someone about
it who had a similar laptop, and their XF86Config file was identical almost to
mine with respect to my monitor and graphics card settings.

I have a Dell Inspiron 4000, with a 128 bit ATI Rage graphics card.

Also, I get a message from the utility it runs to try and fix my problem that
states, Probing returned bogus results

Does anybody know what I should do? The guy who helped me set this up came
across the same problem with me and he was able to fix it, but dont remember
how he did it.

Thanks,

Matthew Larson
