Last week I got a copy of the new O'Reilly book "Linux Server Hacks". It's a
really good book. As I read it I was amazed with all the little tricks that
are out there that make life so much easier.

This week's meeting is a chance for you to show off the tricks you have up your
sleeves. The format will be as follows:

* You'll have 3 - 5 minutes to show some type of cool trick.
* Your goal is to impress the audience.
* You can present your idea on the projector (there will be a computer there you can
use)
* You'll have net access (able to ssh into a home machine or go to a web page if
needed)
* If you want to bring your laptop or desktop you can plug it into the projector

Here are a few examples of something to do (feel free to show one of these if you
want):

- tar over ssh
- some funky shell command that uses sed, awk, etc
- setting up a quick vpn
- fun with ngrep or ntop
- show off an intense mysql or postgres query
- using /proc to optimize a system
- demonstrate a script that you have written that has made your life as a sys
  admin much easier
- etc...

In the end the club will have an anonymous vote and whoever has the most will
win. We'll try to have as many prizes for participants as possible, such as:

* First Place Prize: IBM Thinkpad 760E w/ powersupply, extra hard drives, extra
memory, pcmcia card
(it does have a few problems with PCMCIA, but besides that it is a great
laptop)
* Second Place Prize: TBA
* Third Place Prize: TBA

We'll also vote on who deserves a SCO OpenUnix CD set with manuals (still in the box).
It is
the "Not So Honorary Last Place Prize". :-)

I think we'll all have fun and learn a lot of new things. E-MAIL ME OFF THE LIST
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING so we have an idea of how long each person will
be
able to take.

It will be in the same place as usual (1086 JKHB) and at the same time (7:30 pm JKHB).

See you there...

-Evan
