OK, so I had a text file in which I wanted to make a vertical selection, so I opened up kdevelop, yes I know, but can you tell me a simpler way to do it?, and while navigating through the arcane setup wizard, the whole desktop froze -- as in the keyboard, the panel, the window manager, everything within window manager boxes. I tried <ctrl>-<alt>-F1, <ctrl>-<alt>-F7, <ctrl>-<alt>-<del>, several-other-angry-random-key-combinations. Is there a key command that I can do when this happens? Did GNOME really crash? Can I do anything to get a terminal as if I knew what I would do when I got one under the circumstances, or restart the desktop, or otherwise in any other way return control of the operating system back to the cluless end-user?
