tail --lines=N filename(s)I have been using cat to view the output of my files... but what if I wanted to just view the last line of the file? How about the last five lines?

the default number of lines is 10.
if you wish tail to follow the file as it grows, such as with a log file, then append -f or -F. -f will fail if the file is inaccessible when you run tail or if it becomes inaccessible any time during the -f. -F stands for -f --retry, and will retry when it becomes inaccessible.
