tail --lines=N filename(s)
the default number of lines is 10.
if you wish tail to follow the file as it grows, such as with a log file, then append -f or -F. -f will fail if the file is inaccessible when you run tail or if it becomes inaccessible any time during the -f. -F stands for -f --retry, and will retry when it becomes inaccessible.
