Try ctrl-alt-F1, log in there, and do 'top' to see what processes seem to be
taking all the CPU.  If necessary 'killall -9' that process (use with
intelligence and care, see 'man killall || man kill').  If you can't get to
one of the virtual terminals in this way, try ssh-ing from another box.  If
ssh can't connect, you've got serious problems.
