Also, you should know that you can hit ctrl-alt-F1 to bring up a text
login window, so that you can manually fix the problem once you find out
what it is, without having to go through the re-install process again.

At the very least, you should be able to fix it to the point where you
can get back into X, perhaps with just a lower resolution like Stuart
was saying.  The only question is, are you willing to "get your hands
dirty" and really learn Linux?
