I've been too swamped to post this to the list yet, but this is an important point that hasn't really been covered. Topher has considerably less time and experience with the UUG than the other candidates. From what I've seen, he's really only been involved this semester, while the other candidates have at least two years of experience with the club. One of these candidates will not be around after next year, but Topher will be.

So, you think that people should vote for you to be our next librarian based on the fact that you claim you won't be around for another term. I find that idea absolutely revolting. One of the many ideas of the Open Source community that I find so appealing is that everything is merit-based. I doubt that Linus has ever thought to himself, "Heh, this guy has been submitting kernel patches for 5 years now. They all suck, but I'm sure he's tried really hard. I'm going to include one of them just because he's been trying for so long."

The positions that we are voting for should be filled by the people that we believe have the most merit for a particular position. If you really think that because Erin and Scott have been members of the club longer than I have that it makes them better candidates, then just say that. Personally, I don't want anybody to vote for me unless they think that I will be a better president that the other two candidates. Anything else would be a gross disservice to everyone involved with the UUG.

"Urging you to vote responsibly"

First read the line immediately preceding. Yes, the one about responsibility. It would be irresponsible to elect someone with an uproven record of service in the club. Like Topher. Nice of you to post this to newbies list where fewer people could see your disinformation. You're analogy of poor service just doesn't cut it. I was talking about real work, and service involving blood sweat and tears for this club. Quality work that has built the UUG into a finer institution and freed it from the evil tyrrany of BYUSA. I'd like to thank the current administration for their efforts, and their desire to get the UUG back into the the school of Math and Physical Sciences where it can better serve the students who will most benefit from it, while still maintaining a fair amount of autonomy.

As it stands, current numbers suggest that Topher will be vice president when the dust settles. Then we can see how dedicated he is to the UUG.

As I had only incidental association with this event, I will further comment that I never said, "vote for me just because I've been around a little while." I said, "I have ideas for ways I can improve the librarian position, but I'll start my own thread to do it. " See that thread for what I intend to do, and remember a diet of tofu leads to malnourishment.

Scott K. <-- vote me for Librarian. [and Propaganda director!!]
