I get this error all the time, but I still have no problem playing DVDs.

I can't really see any error ocurring here.  It almost looks like it
went to play it and then it thought it was empty or something.  Ummmm, I
wonder if mplayer has more of a verbose output or something so we can
tell what the real error is.

Also, are you able to play mpegs/etc. directly?  Ok, how about a .vob
file copied off your dvd.  Can you play one of those directly?
