Is there any way to upgrade from RH9 to FC4 directly (without having to go RH9 -> FC1 -> FC2 -> FC3 -> FC4)? Right now I have a dual boot with Windows XP and RH9. I have the CDs for FC4, but I don't know if I can simply "upgrade" from RH9 or if I'll have to do a fresh install. My biggest concern is that I don't want to screw something up and lose windows (it's a HUGE pain to re-install all of my programs) or my other files. Any suggestions on the best course of action?

If you don't have any files on your Linux partitions you're worried about keeping, doing a fresh install is pretty trivial--just make sure you don't touch the partition table, and simply reuse your previous Linux partitions for the new FC4 install.

If you're not completely comfortable doing this on your own, you may try to get a "more experienced" Linuxer to help you through the first few minutes of the install. If you don't have such a person handy, you may try offering bribes^H^H^H^H^H^Hfriendly incentives such as pizza or root beer, or just bring the box to the next UUG meeting.
