With an installfest right before us, members of the UUG have a great
responsibility concerning those showing a budding interest in Unix. The words of
M Russel Ballard may apply as we encourage UUG members "to help new converts
make the transition into the [UUG] following [installfest.] ...We know from
years of experience that the first contacts new converts have with members in
[the UUG] are critical to the conversion process."

As such we call upon members of the UUG to participate in the Newbie Meeting to
be held on Thursday, January 26th at 7:30pm. We ask for volunteers to present
on:

The Gnome and KDE Desktops
  Customization of settings
  Adding users
  Layout

Essential Applications (or standard works)
  OpenOffice
  Gimp
  Mozilla
  Sendmail
  mplayer/totem
  xmms

Installing new toys
  apt-get
  yum
  rpms
  tar files

The Command Line
  basic commands
(work with installing new toys presenter)

Each section should take between 15 and 20 minutes (NO MORE). Think Home
Teaching: get your message across, make it interesting, and leave!

Consider again the words of M Russell Ballard: "During [this e-mail] we
challenged our young men [and women] to better prepare themselves to serve the
[Open Source Community]. We asked them to be worthy, qualified, [technically
adept], energized [UUGies]. They need to know the message of the [opening of the
source code] and teach it with power in their own words under the guiding
influence of [Linus Torvalds and Richard Stallman]."

By honing you presentation skills you will be better prepared to go out into the
world post-graduation and spread the good Operating System(s). Those interested
in this great calling please reply to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Those interested in
working with other people on a specific topic are encouraged to do so.

-Jamie K. Cummings-

PS, lack of interest may result in a new topic called "Nobility in serving your
LUG. Why you shouldn't fear the Draft."
