Thanks in advance for any help.
I am back in Linux for the first time in couple of months. I installed
Ubuntu w/o a floppy, usb key or CD and the install went great. Everything
works but wireless.
System:
Brand/Model- Vpr matrix 220A
Distro- Ubuntu
Kernel- 2.6.12-10-686
Wirelss- pcmcia trendnet TEW-421PC
Note: both the motherboard and the trendnet card are basically Texas
Instruments products with different brands
What has happened so far:
- Without installing any drivers, the card powered on and I received a wlan0
entry under the menu "System" > "Administration" > "Networking". The
networking app would be unresponsive
- I found an open source driver for the card and followed instructions Now
iwconfig shows that I have the right card (b/g) and a few other things. It
does not show an adapter when I pull the card out of the pcmcia slot.
- "ifup wlan0" tries to do something and gives the following output:
sit0: unknown hardware address type 776
sit0: unknown hardware address type 776

DHCPDISCOVER on wlan0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 4
No DHCPOFFERS received
No working leases in persistent database - sleeping
- I can see that the power light on the card is on, but the transmit/receive
light never comes on (not even during "ifup wlan0"
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Trent
