Subject: [uug] Lack of Newbies Meeting
Date: Sun, 24 Sep 2006 13:36:29 -0600

You may have noticed, but there is no scheduled newbies meeting this
semester. The officers and I have discussed the following, and am
presenting it to ya'll.

We have the room for meetings from 7pm till 10pm. Since meetings don't
start until 7:30pm the plan is to have the time from 7pm to 7:30 as a
time people can come and ask questions, get help with their machines,
etc.

I will be showing up to meetings at 7pm for this purpose, and have told
those people I spoke with at the installfest about this. I'd like to
encourage everyone who can to come to the meetings a little early so you
can help out the people who have questions.

My hope is that by doing this we will be able to get more people
involved in the club, and be able to help out those who may not feel
comfortable getting help on the mailing list or their problem is such
that the mailing list is not a good medium. If no one needs specific
help during this time, I'll be prepared to do a short presentation on
something useful for the 'newbies' group.

I'm open to ideas and suggestions concerning this. The first pre-meeting
help will be before this upcoming meeting on the 5th of October. There
will be a number of people who didn't have time at the installfest to
get everything figured out who are planning to be there, so I can't be
the only one there. :)
