There are a few things to check.
1. Is your connection set to use DHCP in the network settings dialog?
This is the most likely culprit. Once DHCP is selected, everything
should work.
2 If DHCP is selected and things still don't work, are you getting an
IP address? To check, open a terminal and type "/sbin/ifconfig" then
press enter. If you have a valid IP address, you should see inet
10.x.x.x, where x stands for a number.
3. If you have an IP address as described above, is your default route
set up correctly? from the terminal, type "netstat -rn" and press
enter. You should see a line with 0.0.0.0 10.x.x.x in there. It might
also say default 10.x.x.x, where x is a number. The 10.x.x.x is not the
same as your IP address. In my case, I show 10.4.54.1 for this step.
4. If all that is correct, we need to check the /etc/resolv.conf file to
see which nameservers are defined. It should contain the following two
lines:
nameserver 10.8.0.2
nameserver 10.8.0.26

You can add those DNS entries in the DNS tab of the networking dialog if
you need to. If things still aren't working, then more digging will
have to be done. Good luck!
