Hey people,
I hope I'm following correct etiquette. I looked for a search function and
couldn't find one. So here goes.
I decided to take the plunge and install Ubuntu, the amd64 desktop version. I
have never used any *nix system before, but I decided to give it a try.
My wireless network card didn't work booting Ubuntu on the live CD so I
installed the OS on a partition.
I'm on a HP Pavilion zv6000 series laptop, so I tried a few different
versions of bcmwl5.inf. These include 64-bit versions and a version from my
windows partition. I can't get a wireless connection to show up in the Network
Settings applet.
I've tried a few of the walkthroughs and howtos on forums (such as the Ubuntu
Forums) and various wikis. I am a bit worried that my newness to Linux combined
with the fact that I'm tackling this on my own is doing me in here.
I've picked up a few terminal commands and a basic understanding (I can use a
package manager, I understand how to use sudo, etc.).
Is there some advice anyone could offer me, or maybe is there someone I could
bring my laptop to in the Talmage Building to get myself up and running?

Thanks in advance. It's much appreciated.ystem before, but I decided to give it
