Affidavit Confirms Her Campaign Contacted Ex-Buchanan Partner... SARASOTA, FL. (NS) — The Buchanan campaign today unveiled evidence documenting a clear and direct connection between Christine Jennings and a new lawsuit filed against U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan... The campaign produced a sworn affidavit directly tying Jennings’ campaign to a lawsuit filed today by a former business partner of Buchanan’s, Sam Kazran of Jacksonville, Florida... “This revelation confirms what our campaign has been saying all along,” said spokeswoman Sally Tibbetts. “These phony, politically motivated lawsuits are designed to smear Congressman Buchanan and help Christine Jennings.” The affidavit was signed by John Tosch, the chief executive officer of Buchanan Enterprises... According to the affidavit, Kazran said “he was asked to meet with staff members of Christine Jennings in Sarasota, Florida on September 9th 2008 and he planned to do so in order to sit and listen to what they have to say.” He also told Tosch that he hired as his lawyer a major Jennings financial contributor, Steve Hutton of Sarasota, to represent him in a countersuit against Buchanan. The business interests underlying this dispute are in Duval County, not Sarasota County... According to the Federal Election Commission, Hutton has contributed a total of $2,500 to Christine Jennings from 2006-2008. Hutton’s most recent contribution was a $500 donation made in July... The latest lawsuit comes after Buchanan filed a suit in Duval County against Kazran for failure to repay a $2.5 million loan. Kazran, claiming financial hardship, told Buchanan he needed another $5 million. Buchanan declined... Kazran owns three Jacksonville car dealerships. Buchanan has no ownership in any of the dealerships... Kazran’s business partner, Joshua Farid has indicated that both men were contacted by Doug Lyons “concerning contributions made to the campaign of Vern Buchanan,” according to the affidavit. Lyons, a Tallahassee trial lawyer, has been sanctioned by the Florida Bar Association for fraud and dishonesty... Jennings involvement contradicts her previous denial of involvement telling WFLA TV, “I can say that I have not been out there putting this forth to the public about Vern Buchanan.” Jennings has made Lyons ’ sham lawsuits the centerpiece of her campaign, basing her only two TV ads as well as two attack websites on the bogus suits. Furthermore, Jennings made clear in May that she intended to run a negative, attack-oriented campaign against Buchanan. ”We are going to hit him hard,” she said at a campaign event...
