The Russian Defence Minister, Sergei Ivanov, said any military action against Iraq without the U.N. Security Council approval would be "unacceptable and in breach of all the previous agreements. "In another challenge to Washington, Moscow finalised a deal to supply nuclear fuel to Iran. The agreement was reached in Teheran this week by the Russian Atomic Energy Minister, Alexander Rumyantsev, following successful talks on the return of spent fuel for reprocessing in Russia.
Russia will supply the fuel for a 1,000 mw power plant it is building in Bushehr despite strong protests from the United States. Moreover, Russia indicated readiness to build five more nuclear reactors in Iran. Russia also disagreed with Washington's policy towards North Korea, blaming the U.S. for Pyongyang's decision to unfreeze its nuclear programme.
``How should a small country feel when it is told that it is all but part of forces of evil of biblical proportions and should be fought against until total annihilation'' the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Georgy Mamedov, said. ``It is counterproductive and dangerous to blackmail North Korea, considering its grave economic situation,'' the Russian diplomat said in an interview.
