CIS LAWMAKERS POINT TO VIOLATIONS OF UN RESOLUTION ON KOSOVO
BELGRADE, April 23 (RIA Novosti) - UN Security Council
Resolution 1244 on Kosovo is not being complied with, and has been grossly
violated on more than one occasion, Russian legislator Viktor Ozerov claims.
Mr. Ozerov led a CIS parliamentary delegation to that Serb
province earlier this week. The visiting CIS legislators met with Harri Holkeri,
head of the UN Interim Administration Mission (UNMIK); Kosovo President Ibrahim
Rugova; Prime Minister Bairam Rexhepi; Parliament Speaker Nedzat Daci; and with
Serb deputies to Kosovo's legislature.
Today, Ozerov came over to Belgrade to meet with top Foreign
Ministry officials of Serbia & Montenegro.
In Russian parliamentarian's view, international police aren't
doing enough to maintain peace and stability in Kosovo, although they have
detained 260 individuals suspected of involvement in anti-Serb attacks during
the outbreak of violence in the province this past March. "We believe that all
those guilty of violence must be brought to justice. Evil must be punished," the
Russian lawmaker emphasized.
A report reviewing the CIS parliamentary delegation's visit to
Kosovo will be prepared for the Chair of the Interparliamentary Assembly, Sergei
Mironov, who also heads Russia's upper house of parliament, the Federation
Council. This report will then be presented to the Parliamentary Assembly of the
Council of Europe (PACE), as well as to the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
