Prosecuting war crimes

Americans demand that political and military leaders from other countries,
such as Yugoslavia, bear full responsibility for crimes committed in the
foreign countries, but the American officials will not allow themselves to
be subjected to the same scrutiny ("The big shots walk free," by Bob
Herbert, Views, April 29).

These arrogant attitudes will have grave repercussions for global security
for many generations to come as the United States gains ever more enemies
and loses more and more friends.
