Murderer Of A Serb Young Man Released

7 Jun (Blic) - The International criminal chamber of the District Court in
Pristina three days ago sentenced Albert Krasniqi /1986/ to six years in
prison while Aljabinot Gashi /1984/ was released from charges for murder of
Dimitrije Popovic, a student of Medical School of Gracanica. The sentence
was made exactly on the 1st anniversary of murder of the Serb young man. His
parents are desperate because 'the murderer has been released while the
accomplice has been sent to prison'.

Dimitrije's father claims that Gashi had admitted to have killed
his son to the investigation unit of the International Police.

'However, the influential Gashi family has additionally
forwarded the faked identity documents issued by UNMIK on the basis of which
the murderer Aljabinot Gashi was proclaimed underage and a co-driver
although the investigation and Gashi's statement proved quite opposite',
father of the killed student says.

'Such sentence is quite unusual. Now the international public
prosecutor should file a complaint since that right has been taken away from
the lawyer of the Popovic family', lawyer Zivojin Jankovic says for 'Blic'.

Apart from the sentence another thing that caused additional
pain and rage of not only the Popovic family but all Serbs in Gracanica was
a letter that UNMIK's Chief Søren Jessen Petersen sent to the Popovices.

'Please take the deepest condolences in my name and the names of
all members of UN mission on the occasion of the first anniversary of the
tragic and unreasonable loss of your son. We hope that the fact that those
who committed that crime have been sentenced will give you some consolation
at least', Petersen wrote.
