Kosovo <http://www.serbianna.com/blogs/newspost/?p=1100> could freeze Serbia’s
EU integration

December 8, 2008 – 8:34 am

Serbia should immediately freeze its EU integration process if the European
Union conditions Serbia that its membership is contingent on recognition of
Kosovo, says Serbia’s Prime Minister Vuk Jeremic.

“At the moment if the EU was to condition Serbia with recognition of Kosovo, we
would find ourselves in front of an impossible choice. The government of Serbia
would have to stop the process of the European integration,’ says Jeremic.

Jeremic says that there is very little chance that EU ministers will “unfreeze”
the trade agreement with Serbia because Netherlands insists on the arrest of
two remaining Serb fugitives.

Jeremic also said that there is a serious possibility that Serbia does not get
an EU candidate status in 2009 as many expect.

“Building of a modern Serbia is the fundamental priority. This country must
become European, we must live like Europe whether we become or don’t become
part of EU,” said Jeremic.

Jeremic said that the EUs criteria of harmonious relationship with Serbia’s
neighbors has been disturbed because states like Croatia, Montenegro and
MAcedonia decided to recognize Kosovo.

He said that Serbia’s relationship with Montenegro has not changed much except
that Montenegro’s old ambassador to Serbia, Ankica Vojvodic, is no longer in
Belgrade.

Jeremic urged Montenegro to nominate another Ambassador in her place.
