Karadzic: I am sorry for the human victims and suffering
19 August 2009.
Former Republic of Srpska President and Hague indictee Radovan
Karadzic has stated that he is sorry for human victims, destruction and
suffering of all peoples during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, but not for
his role in that period, adding that his consciousness is at peace. I am
deeply sorry for the war, but it was not a matter of choice, he specified in
an interview to REUTERS. Karadzic said he did not want a public function,
but once he had it, he worked in the best interest of the Serb people, which
is in his heart. He explained that during 12 years of hiding he had no
protection in Serbia, while adding that he does not believe general Ratko
Mladic has it either, as one of the two remaining Hague indictees. I hope
that after my trial the things will look different and there will be no more
need to arrest anybody, including Mladic, emphasized Karadzic.
